How often should you change filters?

Guide to understanding how often filter media should be changed

Pfannneberg's filter fans and exhaust filters all come with the IP55 fluted filter, with the exception of PF 11000 and PFA 10000 which include an IP54 filter mat. A common question often arises regarding the frequency of changing the filter media and how to determine when it requires cleaning. The answer to "how often should you change the filter media" depends based on your specific application and the environmental conditions it operates in.

In environments with light dust, changing filters may be infrequent, possibly only once or twice a year. In settings like automotive plants where oil mist is prevalent, more frequent filter changes would be needed, possibly once or twice a month. It is recommended to regularly inspect your filter every month for any signs of clogging. A clear indication that a filter change is needed is if your cabinet starts running hotter unexpectedly, indicating reduced airflow due to a clogged filter. The design of Pfannenberg's IP55 Fluted Filter allows airflow to pass through even when the filter is dirty. However, it is important to note that if the filter is not changed promptly, it will eventually become completely clogged, preventing any airflow from passing through.

The IP55 fluted filters from Pfannenberg can be gently tapped against a surface to remove surface dust and contaminants, aiding in prolonging the filter's lifespan. Avoid using water to clean these filters as it may compromise the hydrophobic coating and potentially damage the filter, depending on the water pressure applied.

The table below highlights certain environments for general guidelines for how often you should change filters.

Ambient Conditions Fleece Filter Mat Fluted Filter
Coarse Particles Minimum of 2 times per year Minimum of 1 time per year
Dust-laden / spray mist Minimum of 6 times per year Minimum of 3 times per year
Very high oil content* Minimum of 1 time per week Minimum of 2 times a month
Without corresponding loads Minimum of 2 times per year Minimum of 1 time per year

*Closed Loop Cooling solutions (AC Unit, Air/Water Heat Exchanger) are recommended for oily environments, please review application with Applications Team with Pfannenberg
